Dear Donor,

It is with great pleasure that I write to you this autumn. Due to your generous donations, we surpassed our fundraising target for 2016-2017, enabling our partners in Jamaica to continue and improve upon the programs that they offer. Thank you for your continued support – it is making a great difference in the lives of children and their families and to the administration of the schools that we sponsor.

We have some exciting volunteer changes to announce. My name is Ben McGrath and I’ve been involved with JSH in some capacity since 2009. I have had the privilege to see the positive impact of Jamaica Self-Help on a visit to Kingston in 2011 and the memories from that experience continue to inspire my involvement in the organization. I have returned to Peterborough after completing an undergraduate degree in political science and have officially joined the JSH volunteers as a member of the Communications Committee. I am joined by Ian MacKenzie, our new Treasurer and Paul Norris, a member of the Board, who brings expertise in governmental relations. Under the leadership of Cathie Morrissey, Chair of the Board for 2017-18, we will continue to ensure the ongoing success of the organization.

We have a number of exciting fundraising events planned for the coming year. Closest on the horizon is “Walking the Camino: One Pilgrim’s Story” presented by Rosemary Ganley, Examiner Columnist and JSH Founder.  She went for “athletic, cultural, spiritual and religious reasons” and she wasn’t disappointed.  Rosemary will show some pictures and tell some stories in a public talk to benefit JSH on Nov. 14th at 7:00pm at Sadleir House, 751 George St. N. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased in advance or at the door.

The eleventh annual Artisan Show and Sale will held at the Mark Street United Church in Peterborough on November 25th-26th. The sale showcases local artistic talent and craftsmanship, with 20% of sales directly donated to supporting youth and educational projects in Jamaica. We hope that you’ll be able to attend! MARK BOTH THESE DATES ON YOUR CALENDAR!

For more information on future events, keep an eye out for our November

e-newsletter, which will be available at jshcanada.org. Make sure to visit the website regularly to stay up-to-date with ongoing initiatives, events, and volunteer opportunities. For your convenience, there is also an option to donate quickly and easily right on the website! Thank you again for your contribution and for making all of the work that we do possible.

Warmly,

Benjamin Mcgrath
